"One Guru. One World. One Network."
In Hindu culture, evolving from human consciousness to experience the state of divinity, known as salvation (Moksha), was considered the ultimate goal of any individual's life. The entire way of life designed here was aligned with this purpose. Gurudeva’s life, firmly rooted in this eternal truth of Sanatana Dharma, is itself the message he gave to the world. The literary creations of the sage Sree Narayana Gurudeva are the spontaneous manifestations of the supreme bliss (Brahmanubhuti) he experienced through deep meditation, expressed effortlessly through the poet in him in Malayalam, Tamil, and Sanskrit.
To a yogi and a spiritually detached master (Sthitaprajna) like Gurudeva, poetic fame must have seemed trivial. Therefore, unlike his contemporary poets, Gurudeva made no effort to compile his inner verses into volumes or publish them. The compilation of Gurudeva's sacred literature available to us today consists entirely of verses collected and preserved by the disciples and devotees who accompanied him at that time. It is highly probable that far more compositions have been lost to time than what has been recovered.
Though Gurudeva expressed his profound self-realization across multiple languages with equal creative genius, his currently available works, if put together, span just over two hundred pages. Yet, with this modest volume of work, he etched his place in history as the possessor of an unparalleled poetic brilliance. Today, there is perhaps no other poet in Malayalam whose verses are as actively read, debated, and chosen as subjects for research theses.
The majority of those who study Gurudeva's sacred works are ordinary people who, after studying other material sciences for their livelihood and succeeding in them, turn to this study in the middle stage of their lives out of a deep-seated interest in Gurudeva and spirituality. They may not always possess a profound knowledge of the archaic linguistic styles or the technical nuances of the language. Therefore, this introductory guide is intended solely to help such seekers understand the texts easily. Those who require scholarly and erudite commentaries are requested to refer to the well-known exegeses composed in various ways by several renowned scholars for this sacred literature.
